Henrietta approves property tax refunds

Henrietta, N.Y. -- Thousands of homeowners could soon be eligible for a $100 property tax refund.

The Henrietta Town Board approved a resolution Wednesday night that allow about $1 million total in refunds for about 10,000 homeowners.

The resolution followed a state audit that found the town collected too much money, building up a nearly $11 million surplus between 2008 and 2013.

Henrietta residents who own homes in the town by June 1 would be eligible. Apartment residents would not be. The proposal still needs state approval.
