Man trapped under 10,000 pounds of steel

Manchester, N.Y. - A 48-year-old man wa sinjured at Pacemaker Steel and Piping Co. Friday evening.

John Washburn of Palmyra was trapped under 12,000 pounds of rolled steel that workers removed using a ceiling crane and chains, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office. 

It took about 40 minutes for fire crews to release him from beneath the remaining 5,000 pounds of steel, first responders said.

The victim was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight for serious lower leg injuries and internal injuries, investigators said.
