Wayne Co. man charged with welfare fraud

Lyons, N.Y. -- Police arrested a Wayne County man for fraudulently receiving nearly $40,000 in welfare.

Randolph Chavis, 41, of Walworth, was charged with felony welfare fraud and filing false documents. Police said he applied for and received food stamps for himself and his child as a single-parent household.

A joint investigation revealed Chavis wife not only lived with him while he was receiving assistance, but also worked full time.

Chavis was being held in Wayne County Jail on bail.
