School board issues Medley Centre ultimatum

Irondequoit, N.Y. -- The East Irondequoit Central School District Board of Education issued an ultimatum to the owner of the Medley Centre after a meeting Monday night.

School board leaders approved a resolution to request that the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency (COMIDA) Board, which controls tax breaks, terminate the pilot agreement with Medley Centre if the financial obligation is not met.

Developer Scott Congel owes five payments totaling close to $4 million on the Medley Centre project.

The ultimatum from the school board follows other ultimatums from community leaders.

On April 10, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, gave her State of the County address at the Strong National Museum of Play, giving an ultimatum to the developers of the Medley Centre in Irondequoit.

"To say it's been a frustrating six years is an understatement, and now the developer faces a final deadline to make all payments due," said Brooks.

The mall's owner has until May 1 to make the payments.
