Local runner heading to Boston
Rochester, N.Y. Its no secret that law enforcement and security at this years Boston Marathon is much heavier. Due to that, many runners feel that this race will be safe.
Kathy Champagne, a Brockport resident, is running in the marathon again this year. She said that shell be aware of her surroundings this time around.
Champagne finished the race last year ahead of the explosions at the finish line.
The tragedy has weighed on her mind, but she said she is determined to have a good race this year, and Tuesdays bomb hoax did little to change that mindset.
I wasnt that surprised, because I think thats very common. I think thats unfortunate, especially on the anniversary of the, you know, the bombings. You cant control that. The security, maybe it will be ramped up even more. I really believe this is going to be one of the safest races you can run, Champagne said.
Champagne said her husband was concerned with her safety in Boston this year, but has changed his mind.
The 2014 Boston Marathon will be her fourth consecutive year.
