New questions about Pittsford officer involved shooting

Rochester, N.Y. - Defense attorneys say the man who pulled a gun on a sheriff's deputy in the Wegmans parking lot in Pittsford in January was shot multiple times in the back.

The suspect's wounds raise new questions about what happened the day Vincenzo Zagari attempted to hijack a car in the parking lot - then drew a pellet gun before being shot by a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy in the hand and in the chest and that both wounds might have been the result of one bullet.

Defense attorneys say medical evidence suggests a different scenario.

Zagari was gravely wounded and nearly died.

He appeared in court Friday morning in a wheelchair.

He's accused of lunging at the deputy with a hammer then after she deflected him with a baton- reaching for a pellet gun that closely resembled a handgun

Zagari's bail, which family members say they cannot afford has been doubled to $300 thousand cash.
