Rochester hosting heroin forum
Rochester, N.Y. -- State lawmakers will meet in Rochester Tuesday to discuss a rise in heroin abuse.
The public forum, hosted by the Senate Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction, is one of 12 to be held across the state to explore ways to improve drug treatment and prevention programs.
Its scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at the Monroe County Office Building on West Main Street. A second forum is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Utica.
State Sen. Joe Robach, U.S. District Attorney William Hochul, Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley and several other local officials, experts and affected individuals are among those scheduled to speak Tuesday morning.
The new state budget included $2.45 million for initiatives to provide prevention, treatment and addiction services for heroin and other drugs.
