Public meetings begin for policing sections

Rochester, N.Y. -- Meetings began Tuesday night to gather community input on the creation of new patrol sections for the Rochester Police Department.

Mayor Lovely Warren said she wants to create five sections in a push for more neighborhood policing. Police Chief Michael Ciminelli will present a model to the city for approval, based on feedback in five public meetings during the month of May.

The department brought in retired Deputy Chief Fred Bell out of retirement to help. He served as a commanding officer when the department was split into seven sections.

The meetings will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. and are scheduled as follows:

  • Tuesday, May 13: Staybridge Suites, 1000 Genesee St.
  • Thursday, May 15: RPD Patrol Division East Office, 630 North Clinton Ave.
  • Tuesday, May 20: Public Safety Building auditorium, 185 Exchange Blvd.
  • Thursday, May 22: Aquinas Institute, 1127 Dewey Ave.
