Schumer: New stadium key to keeping Bills
Rochester, N.Y. -- A new stadium is the key to keeping the Buffalo Bills in Western New York, according to Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Schumer, a member of the panel looking into a new stadium, said he spoke with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Monday, and theyre both committed to keeping the team in the area.
But he said a new stadium has to be in place, at the very least, for a long-term agreement to be reached.
My bottom line, the only litmus test I have in terms of any owner or any location, any type of stadium, is that it keeps the team in Buffalo, not just for 7-10 years of this contract, but for a generation, Schumer said during a visit to Rochester Monday.
Several names have been rumored as potential buyers for the Bills, including a group led by Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly and real estate mogul Donald Trump, and a separate group that includes Paychex founder and Irondequoit native Tom Golisano.
