Airport sign hampered by airspace

by Evan White

Rochester, N.Y. -- Given the close proximity to the airport, it is one of the citys most visible signs, but even more noticeable for drivers on the expressway because it has been down since March.

The large green sign for exit for Brooks Avenue on 390 Northbound was damaged March 12th after being hit by a driver during a snowstorm, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

The D.O.T. recently told 13WHAM News a crane would be needed and that the work would be completed before long, then a significant issue arose.

We have to get special coordination and permits and reviews so that we dont interfere with airplane traffic, said Lori Maher, spokesperson for the New York State Department of Transportation.

The sign is across the expressway from the Greater Rochester International Airport.

Once the D.O.T. receives approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, the sign repair should take an hour, Maher added.
