Finger Lakes fire departments get funding

Washington, D.C. The Finger Lakes Fire Departments will get more than $200,000 in federal funding from the Department of Homeland Securitys Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced Friday.

The grant money will go toward purchasing necessary equipment, including radios, breathing systems and training mazes.

This is an important investment for our fire departments across the Finger Lakes Region, Senator Gillibrand said in a statement. When our first responders go in harms way, its our job to make sure they have the right equipment to save lives. This funding will provide critical tools and resources to our firefighters so they can better serve our communities and keep our families safe.

These federal grants are awarded on a competitive basis to departments that apply and clearly address the needs for their area, as well as demonstrate financial need.
