Man arrested for DWI, fleeing police after crash

Canandaigua, N.Y. -- An Ontario County man faces several charges after fleeing police following a crash Thursday afternoon.

Sheriffs deputies said Anthony Legrette, 44, of Canandaigua, was driving on State Route 21 in Hopewell when his car crashed into a vehicle driven by John Van Epps, 47, of Clifton Springs, who was trying to pass Legrette.

Police said Legrette left the scene of the crash. They attempted to pull him over on Chapel Street in Canandaigua, but he led them on a brief chase before pulling into the Granger Homestead, getting out of his car and trying to run away.

Legrette stopped running moments later and was arrested. Police said he refused a breath test.

Police charged Legrette with unlawful fleeing of a police officer, leaving the scene of a property damage crash, reckless driving, and driving while intoxicated. He was arraigned in City of Canandaigua Court and taken to the Ontario County Jail.
