Dozens apply for storm relief dollars
by Evan White
Branchport, N.Y. -- Well more than 100 applicants visited the mobile command center of the New York State Department of Financial Services seeking storm relief aid Thursday.
The DFS mobile unit was dispatched by the governor's office with the goal of making sure those with flood insurance were getting the help they need from their insurance companies, and assisting others without insurance to tap into grant money.
Homeowners can receive hundreds or up to $10,000 in aid depending on the severity of the damage, place of it and how long they've lived at the residence.
"I think that's wonderful," said Violet Donaldson of Jerusalem.
A drainage ditch was inundated with the washout left by severe rainstorms from mid-May.
The DFS truck visited Penn Yan Tuesday and Wednesday, before moving to the Branchport Library Thursday. For those who missed it, there are details on this website.
There are strict eligibility guidelines outlined in the link provided above.
