Former sheriff honored

Rochester, N.Y. Andrew Meloni is credited with helping to transform the Monroe County Sheriffs Department and its practices.

Now, a part of the County Public Safety Building is named in his honor.

A ribbon cutting and dedication for the buildings new training room was held Wednesday.

Meloni served in the Monroe County Sheriffs Department for 41 years and was sheriff for half of that tenure.

Our motto was we care about people, says Meloni. We certainly do and we show it every day by virtue of the kind of things I run into even after 13 years being retired in terms of what people truly think of our service.

Meloni retired in 2001.
