Megan Merkel arrested again

Rochester, N.Y. -- Megan Merkel, the woman cleared of charges in the 2012 death of a Fairport teacher, was arrested again.

City Court records show the 25-year-old was charged with criminal mischief after a Rochester man claimed Merkel cut the power cords to two televisions at his home on Alice Street in April.

Merkel was cleared of felony manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter charges for the death of Heather Boyum of Perinton, who died after getting hit by a motorcycle and, moments later, the car driven by Merkel on July 29, 2012.

Mark Scerbo, the man driving the motorcycle, is serving up to 15 years in prison.

Merkel, however, was found guilty of DWI and unlicensed operation of a vehicle, along with operating a vehicle with inadequate brakes.
