Letter of default issued to Medley owners

Irondequoit, N.Y. - Monroe County and the East Irondequoit School District are taking action against the owners of Medley Centre in Irondequoit.

On Friday, COMIDA issued a letter to Bersin Properties, LLC, which owns the former Irondequoit Mall, stating that it defaulted on its tax-break agreement. COMIDA said its attorneys met with government partners Friday morning to "begin the process of holding the developer accountable" for the money owed under the PILOT agreement.

Meanwhile, the school district sent a letter to the county, requesting that COMIDA terminate the PILOT agreement.

Medley Centre owners had to meet a midnight deadline as part of that tax agreement. They paid only about $392,000 of the owed $3.8 million.

The school district's request to end the tax-break agreement comes a day after Irondequoit Town Supervisor Adam Bello did the same thing.

UPDATE: 13WHAM News received the following statement from Medley Center owner, Scott Congel:

"Unfortunately, given the parties disparate views, judicial intervention does appear to be inevitable.  Nonetheless, we believe the lawsuit threatened by the taxing jurisdictions  not only will  fail to produce the results they desire ,  but it is not legally supportable."-  Scott Congel, Managing Partner of Bersin Properties, LLC
