Local WWII plane lands in Europe

Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany -- A vintage World War II aircraft that took off from Livingston County earlier this month has landed in Europe.

The plane, named Whiskey 7, was one of hundreds of C-47 aircrafts that flew paratroopers into battle during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944 in Normandy, France.

Whiskey 7 will be at Normandy for the 70th anniversary of D-Day alongside several soldiers who landed on that beach decades ago.

The plane has been housed at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo. It left May 15 to visit several countries before making its way to France for the anniversary. It will stay at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany until leaving for Cherbourg, France, Sunday.
