Cell phone carriers to support texting 911 centers
Washington -- America's four largest cell phone carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile, will soon begin to support texting 911 call centers.
Text-to-911 is not meant to replace the standard phone call, but it could help in situation when the person in need of help is unable to speak.
The feature will roll out gradually beginning next week.
According to the FCC, The Monroe County 911 Center has been accepting texts from Verizon customers since last year.
