Alleged cat trapper in Wayne County

Ontario, N.Y. -- Feral cats have been a problem for at least a decade in Orchard Grove Village.

"A lot of people either they'll move out, drop or leave them, or they'll pull into the park and drop them off," said Dave Hutton, property manager.

In April, Marilyn Mathous-Adams began to notice cats were missing.

One cat was found in a trap on her neighbor's property, according to Adams.

"I'm just devastated," Mathous-Adams added. "Those were our babies."

Three of her cats are still missing. The man who they accuse of doing it is Mike Brown.

In a brief conversation with 13WHAM News, Brown said the cats have damaged his property, spraying his grill with urine, leaving a trail of feces along the walkway and ripping the screens on his enclosed porch.

He added that the cats are not supposed to be allowed to roam around Orchard Grove Village.

Meanwhile, Hutton said it is a tough situation as the area has long had a problem with feral cats seeking food and shelter.

"Some of the tenants will feel sorry for them in the winter months and they'll pull the security back on the trailer and they'll get underneath the trailer and cause thousands of dollars' worth of damage to the heat ducts," Hutton said.

State police have visited Orchard Grove Village to speak with Brown, according to an investigator.

It is unclear if Brown has broken any laws, though the Wayne County District Attorney's Office said it is investigating the matter.

Brown declined an interview request.

More than 20 cats, including pets and feral cats, are missing, according to Diane DiGravio of Habitat for Cats.
