National spelling bee ends in tie

Painted Post, N.Y. A Steuben County teen now holds the title of co-champion of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, along with a seventh grader from Texas.

The two junior high school students tied after they ran out of championship words to spell.

For the first time in more than 50 years, there are two champions to the spelling bee.

I think we both know the competition was against the dictionary, not each other, and Im happy to share this trophy with him, Sriram Hathwar said.

Each champion wins $30,000, among other prizes. Both winners say they will use the money for college.
