Steuben Co. speller advances in bee

Washington -- A student from Steuben County will compete in the semifinal round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee Thursday.

Sriram Hathwar, 14, of Corning, correctly spelled both of his words during Wednesday's preliminary round in Washington, D.C.

Gavin Buehler, 13, of Williamson, was also in Wednesday's competition, but did not make the cut for Thursday's round. He spelled one of his two words correctly.

You can watch Thursday's semifinal round starting at 10 a.m. on ESPN2. The finals air at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
