Assault suspect arrested

East Rochester, N.Y. -- Police have arrested a man they said assaulted a woman and took her car.

Monroe County sheriff's deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to Macedon Center Road near Wakeman Road in Perinton for a reported assault.

They said a 45-year-old woman was driving her car with a passenger, her boyfriend, 35-year-old Donald Hinchman. The victim pulled over after they started to argue.

Deputies said that's when Hinchman struck her with a tire pressure gauge, attempted to stab her with a steak knife, pushed her out of her vehicle and drove away.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said the victim's vehicle was soon found unoccupied on Route 104 in the Town of Ontario.

East Rochester police arrested Hinchman was arrested around 9:30 p.m.

Deputies said more information about the arrest will be released Thursday morning.
