MEMORIAL DAY: Fallen sailor honored through golf tournament

Webster, N.Y. - This weekend is a reminder that Memorial Day - isn't just a day off.

It's a chance to reflect - on those who, year after year, and day after day - put their lives on the line for others.

A point that the father of Michael Pernaselli wanted to make clear Saturday.

He lost his son - a Brighton High School graduate - ten years ago in Iraq.

A golf tournament was held in Webster for Pernaselli, helping to raise money for a college fund for the two daughters he left behind.

"This is the day when you want to look back and say thank you," said John Pernaselli. "And all it takes is a thank you. Nobody's looking for a gift. Just a thank you and a little pat on the back saying thanks for being there for me."

Pernaselli's father said the event brought out other local families, who like him, lost a loved one while serving their country.
