Murder charges dropped against confessed killer

Rochester, N.Y. -- A judge agreed to drop murder charges Wednesday against the man accused of killing a Greece music teacher back in 1991.

Edward Laraby, 61, died in prison Sunday. He was serving out two life sentences for other crimes in Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, Erie County.

While in prison, Laraby confessed to killing Stephanie Kupchynsky, an accomplished violinist and music teacher in the Greece Central School District.

Laraby suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease and was unable to stand trial for his alleged connection to Kupchynsky's murder.

In court Wednesday, Laraby's attorney asked the judge to dismiss the murder indictment against him.

13WHAM's Patrice Walsh was in the courtroom for the decision and will have the very latest on 13WHAM News Midday and at 5 & 6.
