Family mourns RPD officer who died in Greece crash

by Patrice Walsh

43 year old Felicia Gilchrist was a dedicated Rochester Police Officer, seriously injured by a hit and run driver back in 2001, while on-duty.

Sadly, she was killed in another crash Tuesday night, in Greece, as her father rushed her to the hospital for a medical emergency.

Greece police said they arent sure yet if Gilchrist died of injuries sustained in the accident or from a medical condition. Family members said she had lupus, a heart condition and other medical issues and that her health had been declining. They said they doubted the car accident caused her death.

Police said an autopsy will confirm how she died. Her family said Gilchrist was determined to return to work as a police officer after being injured in the hit and run crash in 2001. She did go back but wasnt able to return to road patrol.

Her sister, Tatiana Briggs, said Gilchrist showed a lot of courage and determination, both in her will to get back to being a police officer and her struggle with serious illnesses.

They are devastated and saddened by her death.

In addition to her father, and five siblings, Gilchrist is also survived by her six-year old daughter.

In a statement to the media, The Rochester Police Department said it is saddened by her death and praying for her family.
