FDA warning about pet jerky

Silver Spring, Md. -- The Food and Drug Administration has issued a new warning about jerky pet treats imported from China.

Since May 1, the agency has received 4,800 reports of illnesses that "may be related to consumption of the jerky treats."

The cases include more than 1,000 canine deaths.

The majority of the treats are from China, with flavors that include chicken, duck and sweet potato.

An investigation is ongoing, but no determination had been made about what exactly has been causing pets to become sick.
