Town Hall: Colleges in Monroe County

Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester is home to some of the finest colleges in New York State, if not the country.

Statistically speaking, Rochester is also home to the worst performing city school district in the state and one of the worst in the country.

Monroe Community College is one of the finest community colleges in the country.

Just this year, a day after the President's State of the Union Address, Vice President Joe Biden touted the school's workforce development program as an example of what our country could do in more places.

But many local high school grads aren't prepared for that next step.

And in Rochester, 34 percent of city school students drop out of school.

MCC President Anne Kress pointed out to 13WHAM that the school and many local colleges are now partnering with city schools to offer college-level courses to high school students.
Kress is one of five panelists taking part in 13WHAM's Town Hall Event: "Your Voice, Your Future, Your City Schools."

It starts a 7 p.m. at the Strong National Museum of Play.
