ALBANY: Bear removed from tree, dies
Albany, N.Y. (CBS6 and AP) -- After more than 24 hours spent in a tree in an Albany neighborhood, crews have removed a black bear.
Shortly after 10 on Wednesday morning, crews went up in a DGS crane truck to tranquilize the bear.
Just before 1 p.m., the bear fell out of the tree was removed by DEC officials.
The bear was alive when it fell out of the tree, but officials confirmed the bear will be euthanized due to injuries.
The approximately 175-pound bear was first spotted early Tuesday morning in a neighboring suburb and again at nearby Exit 23 on the Thruway.
The animal was discovered later in the day near a home off Whitehall Road.
When attempts to hit the bear with tranquilizer darts failed, conservation officers shot it with a shotgun, but the animal climbed up the tree.
