Birthday greeting for sick student

Irondequoit, N.Y. -- There was a special birthday greeting Thursday for a kindergarten student in the East Irondequoit Central School District who has cancer.

Students in Kiristin Fitzgerald's class at the Ivan Green Primary School got the chance to wish a fellow classmate, August, a happy birthday via Skype.

Thursday was August's sixth birthday; he was diagnosed with cancer back in January.

The class is taking part in the program "There's a monkey in my chair".

August got a big stuffed monkey that takes his place in school when he can't be there.

Thursday, the students wore their "Team August" T-Shirts.

"At first it started with cards and letters and pictures we would send with his sister home," says Fitzgerald.
