Memorial Day observed in Rochester
Rochester, N.Y. -- Monday is Memorial Day, a time to honor those who died serving the United States.
Several tributes are scheduled, while some already took place earlier in the holiday weekend.
Patriotism was on full display in Irondequoit Sunday for the town's Memorial Day parade. Many who came out reflected on those who they had known that served.
"I remember a friend of mine who died just over a year ago," said Bill Bennion. "He was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, and he was proud of his service. He had one, two bronze stars, so I think of him on Memorial Day because he was proud of his service."
"My father was in World War II and he got killed over there," said Bill Tiefert. "I come every year. I don't miss it."
Many other events were scheduled across the Rochester area Monday. For a full list, click here.
Federal, state and city offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day, including Rochester and Monroe County libraries, banks, the Department of Motor Vehicles and post offices.
Garbage collection will be delayed one day. There will also be no mail delivery.
