Man uninjured after fleeing from moving car on I-590

Brighton, N.Y. -- A 44-year-old man who had recently been released from a mental health facility, fled a vehicle on the expressway Thursday. He was found without incident hours later.

The man was seen by a motorist who alerted police after watching a news report about the situation and then spotted the man walking along Interstate 590.

He was a passenger in a vehicle that he abruptly fled around 7:30 a.m., according to Captain Doug Montijo with New York State Police.

The man was found just before of 11:30 a.m. and taken into custody.

Aside from a bloody arm, the man did not appear to have any other visible physical injuries.

Police had stressed that he was not a threat to the public, but was to himself.

A nearby elementary school was put on lockout, meaning no one could enter, police said.

After being found, the man was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
