Study: Record number of power outage warnings

Rochester, N.Y. - RG&E customers were hit with a record-number of power shutoff warnings in 2014, according to a new analysis by AARP and New York's Public Utility Law Project.

The analysis found that over 200,000 customers faced the threat of having their energy shut off in the first four months of the year.

That's even more than any four-month span during the height of the Great Recession, according to the study.

AARP argues that New Yorkers are struggling to stay on top of their utility bills, and says that legislation to create a utility consumer advocate office, is being "stonewalled in the State Senate."
