Funeral arrangements for fallen trooper set
Port Dickinson, N.Y. (AP) -- Funeral arrangements have been made for Trooper Christopher Skinner, who was struck and killed while making a routine traffic stop on Interstate 81 near Binghamton last week.
State police said calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Community Baptist Church in Port Dickinson, just north of Binghamton. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church on Reynolds Road in Johnson City.
Skinner, 42, was killed instantly when he was struck by a pickup truck around noon Thursday. The driver, Almond Upton, 60, of Melrose, Florida, has been charged with first-degree murder. Police said Upton admitted he intentionally hit Skinner with his car.
Skinner was a 13-year veteran of the New York State Police, based out of Binghamton at the time of his death. He was previously based out of Canandaigua for several years, during which time he was also a volunteer firefighter in Clifton Springs.
