Charlotte residents concerned about safety

Rochester, N.Y. -- Public safety was the main topic of discussion for Charlotte community members Monday.

A good hour of the meeting was focused on safety concerns in light of the fights that broke out on Memorial Day at Ontario Beach Park.

Several fights broke out last Monday, prompting police to temporarily shut down a portion of the park trying to clear the scene.

Nearby residents said they worry with the summer concert series about to start that fights will be a common occurrence.

They want a more visible police presence and also want police to address noise concerns from motorcycles and vehicles racing along Lake Avenue.

Rochester Police Chief Mike Ciminelli said the police department had extra resources in place anticipating any issues, but people still chose to make poor choices.

While the new reorganization plan won't take place until next year, Ciminelli said there are things the department can implement now.

There is a camera monitoring the area, a more visible presence overnight, and the Rochester Police Department is working with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
