50 dogs rescued from N.C. puppy mill

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (ABC) -- More than 50 dogs, including English bulldog, yorkie, cocker spaniels, French bulldog and shitzu breeds, are receiving medical attention after a bust at a suspected puppy mill in North Carolina.

On Monday, the Rutherford County Sheriff's office made the disturbing discovery after receiving several anonymous tips.

Two days later, deputies were able to execute a search warrant and rescue the animals.

The Humane Society says the medical care the dogs need will cost thousands of dollars.

Some of the animals are in such bad shape that veterinarians couldn't locate some of their body parts.

Once the sheriff's office receives all of the vet reports, investigators will meet with the district attorney's office to determine what charges should be filed.
