Excitement and concerns for new store

by Cody Combs

Victor, N.Y. - If all goes according to plan, in 2016 the first large-scale Bass Pro Shops outdoors store in New York State will open its doors along I-90, just east of the Eastview Mall.

"Its exciting news here," said Jack Marren, Victor Town Supervisor. "Certainly for the town, Ontario County and the Finger Lakes region as a whole."

If the construction plans are approved by the Victor planning board, the store, once open, will be approximately 145,000 square feet in size.

Some living near the proposed store are worried about congested traffic.

Christopher Videan lives on High Street, about one mile from the proposed construction site.

"It's going to become busier," he said, referring to the traffic that's increased in recent years in front of his home. "If you have all that traffic, I'm concerned about the children [living in the neighborhood]."

Others in the area expressed similar worries.

Supervisor Marren acknowledged those concerns.

"There's going to be an impact, I'm not going to say there isn't," he added. "We'll be working with the developer and with the state to mitigate traffic."

If the planning board process goes smoothly, Marren expects the new store to open in 2016.

A Bass Pro Shops spokesperson tells 13WHAM News anywhere from 300 to 350 workers will be hired once the store opens.
