Local Boy Scouts council opens new center

Brighton, N.Y. -- The local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America celebrated the grand opening of its new service center and retail store Tuesday.

The Seneca Waterways Council moved from East Avenue in Rochester, which it called home for more than 50 years, to a newer building at 2320 Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road.

The new building has 20,000 square feet of office and retail space, with an additional 10,000 available for future expansion.

The lobby contains a new museum of local scouting, and the retail shop now has an expanded inventory.

The center will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., and the shop will also be open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
