Police: Grad student death accidental

By: Patrice Walsh

Rochester, N.Y. -- Friends said 25-year-old Lisa Voltz was both sweet and spiritual.

She was a full-time student in the master's of social work graduate program offered jointly through Nazareth and Brockport colleges.

She was also a graduate assistant.

Voltz was found unresponsive in the hot tub behind the house where she lives which is part of a community co-op.

Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful. She died at the hospital Tuesday night.

Neighbors said the community where Voltz lived is a place where residents share everything from potluck suppers to chores and activities.

Those who lived there and knew Voltz were too distraught to speak about the graduate student. They said she loved helping people and being involved in the community.

Rochester police said Voltz was originally from Lockport.  She attended Union College in Schenectady and began the master's program in 2013.

Friends said Voltz was always smiling and living in the moment. They said she will be missed.
