Gates Police warn of recent thefts

Gates, N.Y. - Police are alerting neighborhoods of recent burglaries in the area.

Most recently, the Gates Police Department posted on their Facebook page June 6 four incidents.

A laptop was stolen on Meadowdale Dr from an unlocked breezeway between 3-7am, according to the Facebook page.

Steven Castrechino has lived on Meadowdale Dr since 1983 and said, It doesnt surprise me. Ive been robbed her at my own home.

Castrechino recalls the incident from eight years ago. A burglar broke into his home and tried to sneak away with his generator.

Unfortunately for him, when he backed out of here [driveway] it [generator] fell out back of his vehicle and it fell out on the street right here and I was able to recover it, said Castrechino.

In the second incident, copper pipes were stolen from a vacant home on Country Gables Drive.

Jay Snyder who has lived on Country Gables Drive for 37 years said he was there the day police were investigating.

I got to go into the house and saw all the damage that had been done, said Snyder. Most of the copper pipes had been taken out of the residence.

Police also reported an unlocked bike was taken on Waldorf Ave, and a purse was stolen from an unattended shopping cart.

The Gates Police Department is asking the community to report any suspicious activity.

They also ask residents to practice common sense safety tips like keeping doors locked.
