Father arrested after son burned by bath water

Story credit goes to our news partner, the Times of Wayne County.

Sodus, N.Y. A Sodus man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, assault and punishable false written statement after investigators say he put his 5 month old son in a bath and scalded him.

According to the Times of Wayne County, investigators say Brandon Bellinger, 26, put the baby into a bath, turned on the water and was distracted by a movie. It wasnt until the child screamed that he realized the baby had been burned by hot water.

New York State Police were alerted to the incident after the child was treated at Strong Memorial Hospital for severe burns to his lower body.

The child stayed at the hospital for a week for treatment of second degree burns.

Police say Bellinger first told them the baby must have hit the hot water on his own, but later admitted to being distracted.

The case was investigated by Wayne County Child Protective Services.

The childs mother was at work at the time of the alleged incident.

Bellinger will return to court at a later date to answer the charges.
