Health risks from mosquito bites

Rochester, N.Y. Health officials are warning people to be extra careful this summer, because of a virus spread by mosquitos.

There have been 38 confirmed cases of Chikungunya Fever, a virus that was brought into the country by infected travelers who had recently been to the Caribbean. There is no cure or treatment.

Theres no vaccine for it, theres nothing else you can really do, but avoid mosquito bites, said Ture Carlson of Memphis Vector Control.

The symptoms, including fever, headache, vomiting, rash and joint pain, kick in about 3-7 days after the initial bite, and last about a week.
