Body of Medina soldier arrived Monday

Medina, N.Y. Described as a go getter, Shaina Schmigel enlisted in the army shortly after high school.

Schmigel served six months in Iraq in 2011 and was most recently stationed at Fort Bragg where she died.

Schmigels family said nothing was stopping her getting what she wanted. As a sergeant in the Army, Schmigel was also a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. She was jump training on May 30 at Fort Bragg, when she was killed.

People from all over Western New York went to pay their respects to Schmigel, including members of the Rochester chapter of the Patriot Guard who left from Henrietta this afternoon.

Ride captain Scott Hayes told 13WHAM News its important for them to be there for the families.

Hear from Hayes in the video above.

Calling hours for Schmigel are Tuesday in Batavia and her funeral is Wednesday.
