Empire State strikes back against heroin

New York -- Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced an agreement on several bills aimed at combating the state's heroin and prescription drug epidemic.

The governor said the measures include programs aimed at improving treatment options.

The agreement also includes an awareness campaign at all public colleges and university campuses.

Last year, New York State had more than 89,000 cases of heroin and prescription opiate treatment admissions -- a sharp rise from the 63,000 in 2004.
