Chicago (AP) -- A government analysis says women with heart failure are more likely than men to benefit from special pacemaker therapy but are less likely to receive one.
The findings are in the first study of its kind conducted by researchers at the Food and Drug Administration.
An FDA medical officer says medical device studies have included few women, and that has made it tough to assess gender differences.
So the researchers pooled results in three previous pacemaker studies to get enough women to analyze results by gender.
The authors say the report highlights the importance of including women and other under-represented patients in medical research.
