Car "crashes" birthday party

Rochester, N.Y. - A birthday party ended with a car crash Friday night on Strong Street in Rochester.

Rochester Police said a driver was speeding down Hollenbeck Street when he lost control and crashed right into the Corporan family's corner home.

Nearly 50 people were there celebrating Michael Corporan's 14th birthday.

"I was having a bonfire to celebrate me turning 14," said Corporan.

Rochester police said the driver hit two young men at the party who each complained of leg pain. An unknown male passenger left the scene.

What scared Corporan the most was the safety of his brother.

"My little brother's bike was sitting there, he was next to it, and when I checked under the car I saw his bike so I was scared," said the teen. "I thought my little brother was under the car."

Corporan's brother did not get hit and is okay.

The driver suffered the biggest injury. Police said a section of the metal fence impaled the windshield and hurt the driver.

"I don't know who he is but I just know when he came out of the car he was bleeding in his chest, and he was saying that he was sorry," said Corporan.

An apology the 14-year-old has accepted.

Police said the male driver, 25, is in critical, but stable, condition. They said he will be cited as speed appears to be a factor in the crash.

Diana lives across the street on Hollenbeck and witnessed the crash. She said, "He just came out of nowhere. Next thing I knew, he was right into the house and there were a lot of people. They had little kids too. Luckily they didn't get hit."

The property's metal fencing was plowed over by the car and there is exterior damage to the house. Police told the family the driver's insurance will cover the damage.
