Floreano given Legacy Award

Rochester, N.Y. An international honor was bestowed upon the head of the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

Joe Floreano received this year's Legacy Award from the International Association of Venue Managers Foundation Friday.

The award recognizes an individual whose legacy of leadership has advanced the venue management industry.

Floreano is a past chairman of the organization and has been executive director of our convention center since it opened in 1980.

Floreano says he is extremely honored by the award and it's even more poignant because of his failing health.

"I was in California, and all of a sudden, I was having some problems, and come back to find out I have liver cancer and a short time to live," says Floreano. "So it's like wrap up your life. Wrap it up, put a nice bow on it, and leave it to the next generation."

"Joe's been such a vital part of our industry for so many years, for 35 plus years, he's been a foundation for us in the industry so it was an honor for us to be able to come here and present this to him," says Jason Rittenberry, Chairman of the Board IVM Foundation.

Floreano has received numerous awards and recognitions over the years from New York's Senate, Assembly, and Governor.
