Richards reacts to modernization program

Former Rochester Mayor, Tom Richards, talked about the citys school modernization project Thursday.

It is the largest public works project in Rochesters history and is slated to cost more than a billion dollars.

Phase I of the project has caused some controversy and is being investigated by the FBI.
Richards, who was recently appointed to the projects oversight board, did not comment on that issue, but he did say he is glad that a deal was reached to begin phase two.

Were not building palaces here, says Richards. Were putting these schools, some of which are 100 years old, in the same condition that the kids all around this county have. And that does two things: provides education and other opportunities, but it says to the kidswe care about you.
