Local plane takes part in D-Day ceremonies

Sainte-Mre-glise, France -- A piece of history from the Rochester area was in Normandy Friday morning to help mark 70 years since the D-Day invasion.

A vintage C-47 plane known as Whiskey 7 flew over France delivering paratroopers during the June 6, 1944 invasion. It was scheduled to re-enact the paratrooper jump in real time Friday.

The plane took off from the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo May 15 to make stops in England and Germany before heading to France.

It was restored at the museum for the historic trip. Four local World War II veterans who took part in the invasion, considered the wars decisive battle, were in Normandy for Fridays ceremonies.
