Mother grieves after daughter dies at Fort Bragg
Medina, N.Y. Officials at Fort Bragg are still investigating the death of a 21-year-old Sgt. Shaina Schmigel, who died on Friday during a training exercise at Fort Bragg.
On Monday, her family grieved with teachers who knew Schmigel during her time at Medina High School.
She was such an outgoing person, said Karie Schmigel, Shainas mother. She did track and cheerleading here at Medina High School, and she was determined to go into the army, so thats what she did.
Schmigels sister, Sheniqua is student at Medina High School, and talked about her sisters sense of humor and personality.
She laughed at everything and everybody just loved her, she said. I just loved her so much and I wish she didnt have to go.
As a sign of mourning, black and white flag flew underneath the American flag at Medina High School.
Schmigel joined the Army in August 2010. She was deployed to Iraq in 2011, from June to November.

The Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the national Defense Service Medal, the National Defense service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, The Army Service Ribbon, and the Parachutist Badge.
