Anonymous STD detecting app
Rochester, N.Y. A new smartphone app has launched that allows people to anonymously upload and submit a photo to a doctor for a diagnosis.
First Derm is an app that launched in Sweden in 2009 as an STD triage app and now it works with a list of dermatologists so that people can get a diagnosis of anything going on with their skin.
The app was shortly rebranded the app for more than STDs in order to increase circulation.
In order to get a diagnosis, people must upload two photos, one close up and one far away, and fill in an online form. All of the documentation is sent to a First Derm doctor for a diagnosis.
Getting a diagnosis costs $40 and can come back within a matter of hours.
The app does not ask for personal information or require people to register, or even to link to Facebook.
First Derm claims that over 70 percent of cases diagnosed by First Derm doctors can be treated over-the-counter.
